The Medieval town of Gois is over eight centuries old, and lies in the Ceira Valley, nestling between the Carvalhal and Rabadao Mountains.

The crystal clear waters of the Ceira River run through the town of Gois.  Born in the Serra da Estrela, the Ceira River joins the Mondego River on the outskirts of Coimbra City, before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean at Figueira da Foz.  There is good, quality fishing all along these rivers.  A little further up, at Penacova, the Mondego is joined by the slower moving Rio Alva, favoured for its numerous well-stocked reservoirs.

The old Town Square "Largo do Pombal" where you will find a fountain with Hispanic-Arab decorated tiles from the 16th Century.  Crossing the Rio Ceira, and leading into the old town of Gois, is the Manueline Bridge with its three arches.
